The Project Team will be in Bulwell Market this Saturday 12 October

Where are the collective memories of a place like Bulwell shared and valued?

How do children, growing up in Bulwell, learn about the fascinating history of their home?

Which Bulwell stories do we want to re-tell, so they live on for future generations?

A new project in Bulwell wants to hold onto people’s memories, and re-tell community stories to inspire a new generation.  Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, people in Bulwell can share their interests in discovering more about Bulwell’s history - from Anglo-Saxon times and the medieval period through to the 20th Century, including the Second World War and post-war industries. The aim is to develop an ambitious 3 year project that will offer inspiring resources, activities and events to bring history to life in schools and public places throughout Bulwell.

Over the next 6 months, a project team working on behalf of Rebalancing the Outer Estates Foundation will be developing a longer term bid to the Heritage Fund – taking into account what local people think is important about Bulwell’s heritage.

Nicola Curzon from the Project Team said, “We are so excited to find out what people are interested in and provide opportunities for people to share their local knowledge. This is a unique opportunity for our schools, children and the whole community to create something that lasts.”

“I’m really pleased that Rebalancing the Outer Estates is supporting this project to explore Bulwell’s heritage. Bulwell has such a rich history and a successful longer term bid would really help us connect our community to our proud past.” Alex Norris MP, Chair of the Rebalancing Board

The Project team will be at Bulwell Market Place this Saturday 12th October from 10am – 2pm talking to local residents and shoppers.

Teachers in Bulwell are invited to a special consultation event on 15th October, 4 – 5.30pm at Cantrell School; and Arts and Heritage Organisations are invited to a focus group on 23rd October, 4 – 6pm at Bulwell Riverside. Further consultations will take place with a wide range of community groups in the area.
